Quist Union Health Initiatives Project 2020
Feminine Hygiene and Gender Based Violence Protection
Liberia’s economy has long suffered the effects of a 14 year gruesome civil war, the Ebola epidemic, and now the COVID-19 pandemic. From the start of quarantine to present date, the rate of gender based violence and sexual assault of women and children has increased by an alarming 50%, forcing the nation into a state of emergency against rape.
Not only is The Union extending the monthly personalized feminine hygiene packages for the 3rd consecutive year, but we are also providing Reusable Menstrual Pads (RUMPS) for 100 students outside of Monrovia in partnership with Liberian NGO, Our Children Future. Additionally, an interactive feminie hygiene workshop, women’s rights and justice presentation, and women’s self-defense classes hosted by our partner Body Zone Fitness Gym and Spa.
The objective of the 2020 project is to increase the knowledge and education of the female population of Liberia. We want to empower them with the information that protects not only their bodies but also their minds. We intend to give them the tools to focus on their dreams and be change agents in a society that does not expect them to achieve greatness.
Raise $2,500 to go towards hosting interactive workshops on feminine hygiene, women's rights, sexual reproduction health, and self defense.
